Zeitgeist puts the player into our world, seventy five years ago - except that it's not the world as we know it. The story as it is now, although it might still be changed - time is in a constant flow.

   History

History: it is often defined by minor events, resulting in major changes.

Be it an iceberg puncturing an unsinkable ship in an unthinkable way, leading to it's sinking; be it a lost and confused assailant shooting the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne because he was forced to take a detour on his way through Sarajevo; or a passenger ship called Lusitania, setting sail for Europe without loading tons of munitions because of its Captain's decision... and, probably even bigger an event, the escape from Saint Petersburg and the return to the reigns of power of the Russian Tsar, Nikolai Romanov, in 1917....

Europe in the 1920's. The Great War started in 1914, a monstrous struggle for the dominance of europe was set into motion. Great Britain, Austro-Hungary, The German Empire, France, Italy, Belgium and Russia, along with smaller nations, entered the war with high expectations that were only too soon exchanged for a continental depression due to the great suffering and loss; the USA, however, remained neutral, since no event occurred that would justify the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of citizens and the highly valued neutral status of the USA.

In 1923, the German Empire and the United Kingdom signed a separate peace treaty, since the German submarine fleet made it impossible to the UK to keep up their war effort without risking starving millions of their citizens; the German Empire, on the other side, has bled out almost all of her reserves on the Western Front, as have Italy, Belgium and France.

1926 - still, no peace negotiations are in sight - every nation has fought too long and lost too much to give in at this stage, and the frontline is now transgressing every nation on the continent without exception. In the UK, the rebuilding of the economy and infrastructure is progressing on a low, but steady level.

1929 - Peace! Eventually, the war is over. Having depleted all of their reserves, the remaining combatants sign a truce in Geneva, Switzerland. Mistrust is rife amongst all of the diplomats, and the wounds that were created in those 15 years of terror will need at least the same amount of time to heal... yet hope is returning.


And now, in the year of 1934, Continental Europe is seeking ways to cope with the aftermath of the Great War.

Although destruction and death have been ever present, this struggle also forced science to develop in a very, very much faster way than it would have in peace time...

The Zeitgeist is defined by devastation, ruins, scientific breakthroughs and uncertainty - "a wonderful mélange for those spirits waiting anxiously in the shadows for their day to come..."



Zeitgeist - a single player mod combining very uncommon gameplay and the exact atmosphere of an age that never existed.
